My background and how I can help you

Hello. I’m Andrew Michael, an award-winning editor and journalist with a strong creative skillset.

My main focus is finance, with a special interest in investing and the stock market.

I've had a varied editorial career that started in the B2B press, before moving into consumer finance for newspapers including The Times and Financial Times as well as magazines such as Shares and Money Management.

Between December 2020 and June 2024, I was an editor at Forbes Advisor UK (part of the Forbes publishing group) focusing on finance across a wide range of subjects, including investment (especially stock markets, share trading and investing platforms), pensions, insurance, and banking.

Part of that role also involved commissioning, writing and editing the PF coverage found on ES Money, the London Evening Standard's online money section.

I've launch-edited several magazines, worked extensively on wider editorial projects (including supplements, brochures and awards programmes), and am also a confident presenter who has hosted/chaired numerous seminars and roundtable discussions.

In essence, I’m very comfortable with words, whether that’s writing them (about 30,000,000 to date!), editing them, or managing other teams of writers to produce really good copy.

Having collaborated closely with SEO professionals, I'm also able to offer consultancy and content creation for private enterprises, including, investment firms, wealth managers, and financial advisers.

In addition to my journalism career, I was also the editor, then publisher, of the Headlinemoney.co.uk website between 2007 and 2013.

HM is a long-established digital platform used extensively by the UK’s money media professionals, from financial journalists/editors to communications specialists and PRs. My contact book is enormous.

Between 2010 and 2020, I chaired the annual (150+ strong) judging process for the prestigious HM Awards, the industry’s ‘Oscars’ for UK financial journalists.

At HM, I also created and organised the business's highly popular 'Masterclass' programme attended by more than 400 journalists, helping in a small way to build their careers.

I’ve won several awards for financial journalism including investment journalist of the year (twice), pensions journalist of the year (twice), and venture capital journalist of the year.

I’ve also written and edited guides/brochures for some of the UK’s best known financial services providers (including banks and investment companies) and been commissioned to write speeches for FTSE 100 CEOs.

I’m available for any project that capitalises on my extensive experience and skillset and would be delighted to discuss opportunities – either on a one-off, or permanent, basis.
